Beer Run Clubs

Find brewery runs, pub runs, and social running clubs with a post-run hangout built into the routine.

A beer run club is built around what happens after the miles as much as the miles themselves. Across the 31 cities and 19 states covered here, the format repeats: a short route out of a taproom or brewery, then everyone sticks around for a drink. If you've written off running clubs as too serious, this corner of the list is built for the opposite instinct.

What matters when you're picking one has less to do with which club and more to do with which night you're free, whether it costs anything, and whether you'll be walking part of it. Most of these lean free and casual, built so a weeknight after work turns into a few miles and then a pint, not a training plan.

Where These Clubs Run

In Charlotte, the Rail Trail runs beside the LYNX Blue Line and drops runners at a string of breweries and taprooms between Atherton Mill and New Bern, which is exactly why so many groups start and finish there. A few miles over, the Booty Loop through Myers Park's oak-lined streets pulls in a quieter, more traditional running crowd before they head toward a beer of their own.

Orlando's version orbits Lake Eola downtown and the Cady Way Trail through Baldwin Park, both flat and paved enough that a weekday run feels more like a warmup, with stops in the Milk District and around Ivanhoe rounding things out. St. Louis works the same way around Forest Park and Tower Grove, where loop paths spill directly onto streets lined with bars and patios.

Further west, Denver's flat greenways along Cherry Creek and the South Platte connect downtown to neighborhoods like Sloan's Lake, where breweries sit right off the loop. Dallas runners lean on the Katy Trail through Uptown and the loop around White Rock Lake, while Portland's routes push into Central Eastside and North Portland, rain or shine, since the weather there never really stops anyone.

How to Choose a Beer Run Club

If Thursday is your night, you've got the most company anywhere on this list, 23 clubs run then. Wednesday (21) and Monday (19) aren't far behind, so a weeknight schedule still leaves you plenty of choice. Friday is the outlier, just 1 club meets that night, so don't build a plan around it.

Whether this costs you anything depends on the club. 51 of the 68 here are free to just show up to, so you're only ever paying for your own drink afterward. The other 17 charge something, an annual membership, a small per-run fee, or a paid registration, so it's worth checking before you assume it's a free night out.

If you need to walk part of it, 52 clubs say walkers are welcome and 65 welcome beginners outright, so a slower pace is the norm here, not the exception. Most of this is road running straight out of a taproom door, but 15 clubs mention trail terrain and 11 use park paths if you'd rather trade pavement for something softer.

Common Questions About Beer run clubs

What is a beer run club?

A beer run club is a running group that finishes at a brewery, pub or taproom, with the social half treated as part of the point rather than an afterthought. The run itself is usually short and easy, often a 5K or so at conversational pace, because the whole thing falls apart if people arrive too wrecked to talk.

Do you have to drink to join a beer run club?

No. Nobody checks, and most groups have people on soft drinks, coffee or nothing at all. The point is that the group stays somewhere together afterwards, not what is in your glass.

Which cities have the most beer run clubs?

Charlotte has the most, with 13 beer run clubs spread across South End, SouthPark and Plaza Midwood. Orlando follows with 7, St. Louis has 5, and Portland has 4. Most other cities on this list have just one or two, so Charlotte and Orlando are the two places where you'll actually have a real pick of nights and neighborhoods.

Are beer run clubs free to join?

Yes, mostly: 51 of the 68 clubs here are free to show up to, you just cover your own drink afterward. The other 17 charge something, whether that's an annual membership, a small per-run fee, or a paid registration for a bigger event series, so it's worth checking the individual club before assuming it's a free night out.

Will I be the slowest person there, or have to run the whole way?

52 of these clubs say walkers are welcome, and 65 say they welcome beginners outright, so a no-drop, any-pace group is the norm rather than the exception. 16 clubs don't mention walkers either way, which just means it isn't stated, not that you'd be turned away if you asked before showing up.

Are any of these more like real training clubs than casual beer runs?

Four are built more like traditional running clubs with structured training alongside the social side: Dallas Running Club in Dallas, PSL Running Group in Pittsburgh, Portland Running Club in Portland, and St. Louis Track Club in St. Louis. Everything else on this list leans toward the looser, one-pace-fits-all beer run or social format.

Do any of these clubs run on a track?

Two do: Seattle Running Club, which mixes a weekly track workout into its rotation out of Columbia City, and Portland Running Club, whose Tuesday session at Duniway Track is part of a bigger weekly schedule. Everyone else here runs on roads, trails, or park paths instead.

Is it weird to show up on my own?

No. Every one of the 68 clubs here ends with a post-run social, whether that's a discounted pint, a free beer, or just hanging around the taproom, so arriving solo puts you exactly where the format expects you to be: at the bar afterward, talking to whoever else showed up.

Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out.
