About This Club

Oakland Beer Runners meets Tuesday evenings at East Bay breweries, runs 2 to 5 miles through the Lake Merritt area and surrounding streets, then heads back inside for post-run drinks. The whole point is the social piece, so the running is genuinely secondary to showing up, moving, and meeting people. If you have been looking for a reason to get out on a Tuesday night, this is a pretty low-stakes one.

  • Locally owned venue partnerships
  • Flexible pace and distance options
  • Organized QR code and verbal directions
  • Group storage for belongings
  • Community-run by volunteers

Who It Suits

This suits you if your Tuesday evening run does not need to be fast or competitive, and you actually want to stick around afterward. It does not suit you if you are training for a specific race pace, need structured coaching, or want a longer training run, since 5 miles is the top end of what they offer.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Runs go anywhere from 2 to 5 miles depending on the night, on city streets, the lake loop, waterfront paths, and greenways around the East Bay. The pace is untimed and casual, flexible enough to fit brand-new runners and former collegiate athletes in the same group. They give you QR code directions and verbal route instructions before you head out, so you are not guessing where to go, and they hold your stuff while you run.

Your First Run

Show up to whichever brewery is hosting that Tuesday at 6:30 PM, because the run typically rolls out around 6:40 PM. Parking is tight around Lake Merritt, so they specifically suggest public transit or arriving early.

When you get there, look for the group, drop your bag with them, grab your route directions, and go. Coming alone is normal here, this is exactly the kind of run people come to precisely because they do not know anyone yet.
