Chicago’s running community is one of the largest and most diverse in the country. The Lakefront Trail alone gives you 18 miles of uninterrupted running along Lake Michigan, and the clubs that fill this city cover every neighborhood, every pace, and every background.
The Chicago Area Runners Association has been advocating for runners since 1978 and now has over 8,600 members with Run Crews in neighborhoods across Chicagoland. Venados Running Club in Pilsen has been going since 1981 with Wednesday evening runs from Monochrome Brewing followed by social time and beer.
3Run2 started as a way for Logan Square and Humboldt Park runners to connect and has become one of the city’s most respected crews with Tuesday and Thursday runs. Heartbreak Hill Running Company in Lincoln Park hosts Tuesday tempo runs, Thursday speed sessions, and Saturday long runs with pace groups and water stops along the route.
Lakeview Run Club, Gold Coast Run Club, and Grocery Run Club keep the neighborhood-specific options strong throughout the North Side. Tortugas Run Club in Pilsen welcomes all speeds on Sunday mornings with the kind of community hangout after the run that keeps people coming back.
Family Style RC creates space for Asian American and Pacific Islander runners. Latinas Run Chicago and Viento Little Village Run Club serve the Latino community with bilingual programming.
Chicago doesn’t just have a running scene. It has dozens of them, each with its own culture, its own routes, and its own reasons to keep showing up.
