Running in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee’s running community is tougher than the winters, and the people who show up in January are the ones who make it special.

The Badgerland Striders have been running since 1959 with over 2,000 members, making them the oldest and largest running club in the state. The Milwaukee Running Group (OMG) schedules around 18 runs per week year-round with pace groups that range from self-described “glacial” to race-competitive. They also do plyometric cross-training in the winter, group dinners after Monday runs, and a legendary holiday party. All for five bucks a year in dues.

Performance Running Outfitters hosts free group runs throughout the week, including a Monday evening route along the Beerline Trail that ends at Lakefront Brewery with half-priced pints and a Wednesday run through the Historic Third Ward that wraps up at Shake Shack. Run Ozaukee organizes supported long runs out of Cedarburg with water stations along the route for runners north of the city.

Between the lakefront paths, the Riverwalk, and the neighborhood routes, Milwaukee gives you plenty of ground to cover and a community that makes every mile worth it.
