Fort Worth racing is shaped by the Trinity Trails, the river-corridor network that threads from downtown through Trinity Park and out to the Southside neighborhoods. Races here often feel like organized versions of the routes locals already run on weekday evenings, which gives the field a familiar, community-club energy rather than a purely competitive one.
When summer arrives, the heat is real - Cowtown earns its name in more ways than one come July and August. Runners who know the city lean on shaded neighborhood loops in Tanglewood and early-morning starts on the Clear Fork path to get their miles in, and the race calendar here reflects that same stubbornness about running year-round.
By the numbers
The Fort Worth races that stand out on the numbers: the biggest field, and the longest unbroken run of editions.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Oct 25, 2026.
Across the 12 RunSignup 5K editions here with published results, walkers and charity entrants included, the median finisher crossed the line at 37:16. The median last finisher came in at 1:09:27. The field is wide, and slower runners are clearly a normal part of these events.
Fall - September through November - is by far the busiest window, with 36 races. October alone has 16. Spring is the quietest stretch, with April having just 1 race. If your training block falls in summer or winter, there are still 14 and 15 races respectively in those seasons.
61 of the races here say they give a shirt, and 63 publish any giveaway details at all. Only 4 say nothing about giveaways one way or the other - so silence on that question is the exception rather than the rule in Fort Worth.
Many Fort Worth events are multi-distance weekends. Of the races listed here, 44 also offer a 10K and 42 also offer a half marathon at the same event, so stepping up or bringing a friend who wants a longer race is straightforward at most of them.
