Runner’s World has included multiple North Carolina cities on its best running cities list, and the brewery run club scene here rivals anywhere in the Southeast.
Charlotte is packed with options. The Charlotte Running Club is a nonprofit that serves as a hub for the entire metro, listing dozens of weekly group runs across neighborhoods.
Brewery-based running groups are everywhere, with clubs meeting at NoDa Brewing, Sycamore Brewing, Legion Brewing, Resident Culture, and Triple C Brewing on different nights of the week.
Charlotte Runners has been combining runs with social activities since 2007, and their Thursday night run at Legion Brewing in Plaza Midwood has been going strong for over 16 years.
In the Triangle, Carolina Godiva Track Club and the Bull City Running Group keep Durham’s running scene competitive and social. Raleigh has the North Carolina Roadrunners Club and Raleigh Trail Runners for anyone who wants to get off pavement.
Asheville’s running community takes full advantage of the mountain terrain, with Highland Brewing Run Club heading out every Wednesday and the Asheville Running Collective offering Thursday night runs at Wedge Studios that welcome all abilities.
Whether you’re cruising a greenway in Charlotte, tackling mountain trails near Asheville, or doing a brewery loop in Raleigh, North Carolina has a running group that fits. The hardest part is picking just one.
