List of Running Clubs in Washington

Washington is a trail runner’s dream, but the running scene here goes well beyond the trails. From the Pacific Northwest rain to the crisp Spokane mornings, runners in this state don’t let weather dictate their schedule.

If anything, running through a drizzle is part of the culture.

Seattle has one of the deepest running communities on the West Coast. The Seattle Running Club has been active since 2005 with a strong trail focus and weekly group runs that include Monday evenings at Flying Lion Brewery with a post-run pint discount.

Club Northwest is a Brooks-sponsored competitive team developing athletes from youth to Olympic level since 1972. For something more casual, the Green Lake Running Group hosts multiple runs per week, and Brooks Run Club meets at the Brooks Trailhead Store for all kinds of running events.

The PNW Ladies Running Group, Cascade Run Club, and Seattle Front Runners round out a scene where there’s literally a group for every day of the week.

Tacoma holds its own with Tacoma Runners, a social club that does Thursday evening runs through the city’s parks, restaurants, and bars, plus Saturday timed runs at Point Defiance Park. In Spokane, the Flying Irish Running Club has grown into what’s been called the largest social run club in the nation, and the Bloomsday Road Runners Club organizes year-round events well beyond the famous 12K race.

Between the Cascades, the coastline, urban greenways, and hundreds of miles of trails, Washington gives runners terrain that never gets boring. The community matches it.
