Wisconsin Running Groups
You might think Wisconsin winters would slow runners down, but honestly, it’s the opposite. The running community here is tough, social, and shows up year-round no matter what the weather is doing. If you can run through a Wisconsin January, you can run through anything.
Milwaukee is home to the Badgerland Striders, the oldest and largest running club in the state with over 2,000 members and roots going back to 1959.
Then there’s the Milwaukee Running Group (OMG), which schedules around 18 runs per week across the city with pace groups for everyone, plus cross-training, group dinners, and a holiday party that’s apparently legendary.
Performance Running Outfitters also hosts free weekly runs, including a Monday evening route along the Beerline Trail that ends at Lakefront Brewery with half-priced pints.
Madison is just as strong. The Madison Run Club hosts a run nearly every day of the week and prides itself on never letting anyone run alone.
If you prefer trails over pavement, Madison Trail Runners meets weekly at the UW-Arboretum for runs through some of the prettiest terrain in the state.
Movin’ Shoes Running Club rounds things out with themed daily runs, including a Wednesday speed workout and a Thursday women’s run, with pace groups ranging from 7-minute miles to 12.
Whether you’re along the Lake Michigan shoreline, looping around Monona Bay, or tackling an Ice Age Trail segment on a Saturday morning, Wisconsin has a running group that’ll keep you coming back.
Once you find your crew here, every RunSesh just hits different.
