About the Vets Day 5K & 10K

The course runs through Veterans Park along the lakefront in Milwaukee, starting and finishing on Mason Street in front of the War Memorial. The route stays close to the water, so expect open sky and wind depending on the day. It is a cool morning by design, but the setting is worth it.

After you finish, there is a hot chocolate bar near the start area. The race supports a nonprofit that builds mortgage-free homes for veterans, so the post-race mood tends to reflect that.

Common Questions About the Vets Day 5K & 10K

Will I finish last at the Vets Day 5K & 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.37 Miles field finished slower than 33:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Vets Day 5K & 10K a good first 3.37 Miles?

It is a small race (169 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.37 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Vets Day 5K & 10K?

The 3.37 Miles winner ran 17:35 while the median finisher took 33:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Vets Day 5K & 10K?

Join a local run club. Milwaukee Running Group - OMG, Badgerland Striders, Performance Running Outfitters Group Runs and others in Milwaukee welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
