Upcoming running races in and near Louisville, Kentucky - 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and more, with dates, pricing, finish-time stats, start-line maps, and local run clubs to train with.
Louisville running has two personalities and you feel both on the same week of training: flat, easy miles along the Ohio on the Waterfront Park paths or across the Big Four Bridge, then a genuine hill workout on Cherokee Park's Dog Hill or up through Iroquois Park. The Olmsted park system gives the city a rhythm that most river towns don't have.
Races here cluster hard in summer and fall, which means you're often toeing a start line in Louisville heat and humidity rather than ideal conditions. That's not a deterrent so much as a local tradition - the running community here is built around exactly that kind of gritty, warm-weather turnout.
By the numbers
The Biggest and Longest-Running
The Louisville races that stand out on the numbers: the biggest field, and the longest unbroken run of editions.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Oct 14, 2026.
Common Questions About Racing in Louisville
What does a typical Louisville 5K finish time look like, and will I be near the back?
Across the 17 RunSignup 5K editions with published results on RunSesh, walkers and charity entrants included, the median finisher crossed in 35:19. The median last finisher came in at 1:12:59, so the field stays out there for a good while after the midpoint. You're unlikely to be alone at the back.
When is the best time of year to find a Louisville race?
Summer and fall each have 16 races, making them by far the busiest stretches on the calendar. August alone has 12 races. Spring is extremely thin - just 1 race in the spring season - so if your training block peaks in March through May, you'll need to plan ahead or look toward a summer event.
Will I get a shirt at a Louisville race?
22 races say they give a shirt. Of the 36 races here, 12 say nothing about giveaways at all - so silence on a shirt doesn't mean there isn't one. It's worth checking the race page directly if that matters to your decision.
What distances can I find in Louisville, and is there something for a first-timer?
The most common distance by far is the 5K, with 25 races offering it. There are also 6 half marathons, 6 races at 10K, and 2 marathons. The 5K's wide availability means you'll have the most scheduling flexibility if you're newer to racing or want options across the calendar.
Are there trail races near Louisville?
