About the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck

The course leaves a track and field stadium, loops through a university campus, and returns to finish on the track. The route is stroller and wheelchair accessible, with ramps at every intersection. It honors military members who died in combat or from the hidden costs of war, and the morning draws runners, walkers, and those who ruck.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a local barbecue restaurant on Shelbyville Road. Race-morning pickup is also available at the stadium for those who cannot make the earlier window. The start area is the same track where you finish, so there is no guessing about where to be.

Common Questions About the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck

Will I finish last at the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:02, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:49:37, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 382 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:38 while the median finisher took 39:02. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
