About the 45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run

The race runs through Iroquois Park, a wooded Louisville park with rolling terrain. The roads stay open to traffic on part of the course, so runners use a pedestrian path along the back side of the park. Pets are welcome as long as they are leashed, and stroller runners have their own prize category in the longer distance.

Packet pickup happens earlier in the week at a local running store, with race-morning pickup available on site if you cannot make it out beforehand. Parking in the main amphitheater lot fills up, but overflow spots at nearby Colonial Gardens and a local high school are a short walk to the start. Coffee, hot chocolate, and apple cider are at the finish, and a costume contest runs alongside the race.

Common Questions About the 45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run

Will I finish last at the 45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 50:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:03:07, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run a good first 5 Miles?

A field of 741 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run?

The 5 Miles winner ran 25:21 while the median finisher took 50:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
