Racing in Oklahoma City means flat, open miles along lake loops and river greenways more often than not - the same paved paths around Lake Hefner and the Oklahoma River that locals grind through on long training days also end up as race courses. Summer races here are early-morning affairs by necessity, because the sun and wind on those exposed lakeside routes leave no room for a slow start.

Fall is when the city really leans into racing, and the midtown neighborhoods - Heritage Hills, Mesta Park, the leafy streets around NW 23rd - give September and October events a character that a lakeside out-and-back simply cannot. Finish lines near Bricktown or Uptown 23rd mean there is almost always somewhere worth going after you cross.

How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.

Common Questions About Running a Half Marathon in Oklahoma City

How fast do people actually finish the half marathon here? Will I be near the back?

Across the 4 RunSignup half marathon editions in Oklahoma City with published results on RunSesh - walkers and charity entrants included - the median finisher crossed in 2:19:02. The median winner ran 1:28:36, and the last finisher's median was 3:54:31. With a median field of 137 runners, these are mid-sized fields where the back of the pack is well-populated and you will not be running alone.

When is the best time of year to find a half marathon in Oklahoma City?

Fall is by far the busiest stretch, with 11 of the 16 races running between September and November. September alone has 5 races on the calendar. If summer heat does not bother you, 4 races run June through August. Just one race falls in the winter window, so December through February is thin.

What does a half marathon here typically cost, and does it get more expensive the longer I wait?

Entry fees range from $15 to $50, with a typical fee of $25. One race is free to enter. Two races already have a price increase scheduled, so registering early on those will save you money - check the individual listings to see which ones.

Do these races give out shirts?

10 of the 11 races that say anything about giveaways include a shirt. The remaining 5 races have published no giveaway details at all, so they have not said either way. No race here has announced a medal.

Is the half marathon a good distance to try as a first-timer in Oklahoma City?

Most races here bundle the half marathon with a 5K and 10K, so if you are mid-training and not quite ready for 13.1, shorter options are usually available at the same event. The flat terrain on the lake and river routes that many of these courses follow also makes for a forgiving first attempt at the distance.
