About the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Oklahoma City
The course starts at Draper Park and moves through a stretch of parks, passing lakes and tree cover along the way. The terrain reads as natural and open rather than urban. Aid stations are spread along the route, and there is a costume contest before the gun goes off, with runners showing up in Día de los Muertos face paint and skeletal outfits.
After finishing, the rally tent has live music, a DJ calling out every finisher by name, and Mexican food and drinks. Awards are handed out there too. The costume contest winner is announced before the race starts, so that piece of the morning wraps up before anyone runs a step.
