Nebraska Running Groups

Nebraska might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about running culture, but the community here is strong, tight-knit, and full of people who run through conditions that would keep most runners indoors.

Omaha is the hub. The Omaha Running Club has been supporting runners and walkers since the early 1970s with over 500 members, and they recently brought the Omaha Marathon back under local management. The city has over 120 miles of paved trails, including lakeside paths and riverfront routes that make it a genuinely great place to train.

Scriptown Running Club meets every Thursday evening at Scriptown Brewing Company for a casual run followed by beer, and Kinkaider Run Club gathers at Inner Rail Food Hall in Aksarben Village where you pick your own distance and pace. GOATz (Greater Omaha Area Trail-Runnerz) takes runners off-road for those who want dirt under their feet.

Lincoln holds its own with the Lincoln Track Club and Lincoln Running Company, which sponsors LRC Nebraska, a semi-professional racing team focused on road races across eastern Nebraska. Fleet Feet locations in both Omaha and Lincoln run training programs and a year-round running club membership.

Outside the two big cities, groups like the Central Nebraska Running Group and the Kearney Run Club prove that you don’t need a major metro to build a running community.

Nebraska runners are resilient, welcoming, and show up regardless of what the weather throws at them. That kind of grit makes for the best kind of running group.
