City running club guide

Running Clubs in Miami

Miami running means water on at least one side of you almost every time you head out, whether that's the bay off Brickell or the ocean along the Beach, and it means racing the sun because the humidity turns brutal by mid-morning.

With 11 clubs spread from Brickell to Kendall to Miami Beach, the real question isn't which club is best, it's which night you can actually make and whether you want a hangout afterward or just the miles.

Where Miami Runs

Baptist Health runs three of its clubs out of very different corners of the city: Brickell at the Fortune International Headquarters parking lot, Coral Gables at Life Time, and Kendall and West Kendall further southwest, all road routes through commuter corridors and shaded neighborhood streets.

Coconut Grove Run Club meets at Peacock Park, close to the Commodore Trail and Bayshore Drive, and mixes road, park paths and track work across its week. Miami Gay Run Club starts at Lincoln Road and Bay Road, putting you right into the Miami Beach boardwalk scene, while Run Little Havana meets at Juanchis Burgers for a short run-walk combo through that neighborhood.

EnRoute Run Club is the outlier geographically, based at Coral Reef Park in Palmetto Bay with actual trail mixed into its road and park path routes. Almost everything here starts at 6:30 PM or later on weekdays, which tracks with how locals dodge the heat.

How to Choose a Miami Running Club

If Wednesday is your night, you're in luck: six clubs meet that day, more than any other. Tuesday has two, Thursday has four, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday each have just one, so if a weekday morning or a specific weeknight is all you've got, check which of those fall on your day before you commit.

Cost shouldn't be the deciding factor for most people: nine of the 11 clubs are free to run with, and only two charge anything. If you need to walk some of it, six clubs say outright that walkers are welcome, so ask before you show up if that matters to you. And if you're after dirt instead of pavement, know going in that road is the default here and trail is the exception.

Common Questions About Running Clubs in Miami

Which Miami run clubs are free to join?

Nine of the 11 Miami run clubs are free to show up to. The two that charge are Team FDC, which requires paid registration and membership because it's built around marathon and half marathon training plans, and University of Miami Running Club.

Are there Miami run clubs where walkers are welcome?

Six clubs say walkers are welcome:

  • Baptist Health Gables Run Club
  • Baptist Health Kendall Run Club
  • Baptist Health West Kendall Run Club
  • Coconut Grove Run Club
  • Miami Run Club
  • Run Little Havana

The other five haven't said either way, so it's worth asking before you turn up if walking part of it matters to you.

Which Miami run club actually runs trails?

Only EnRoute Run Club, which meets at Coral Reef Park in Palmetto Bay, includes trail terrain alongside road and park paths. Every other club in Miami runs primarily on road, with a couple adding park paths or track.

Are there weekend group runs in Miami?

Just two. Coconut Grove Run Club meets Sunday at 7 AM at Peacock Park, and EnRoute Run Club meets the first Saturday of the month at 7:30 AM at Coral Reef Park. The other nine clubs run on weekdays only.

Is it weird to show up alone as a beginner in Miami?

No. Ten of the 11 clubs say beginners are welcome, and ten require no membership at all, so turning up solo is the norm. The one club that doesn't specify beginner-friendliness is Team FDC, which is structured around marathon and half marathon training with paid registration required.

Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out.
