Running in Sacramento, California
Sacramento’s running scene has been building for decades, and the variety here is impressive. Flat river trails, rolling foothills, and a race calendar anchored by the California International Marathon give runners at every level something to work toward.
The Buffalo Chips Running Club is Sacramento’s oldest, founded in 1974, and welcomes runners of all ages and abilities for group runs, speed sessions, and social events. SacFit is the largest training group in the region with coaches who actually run alongside you. The River City Rebels have been competitively focused since 1994, and Corremos Sacramento is a Latino-led club centering the wellness of marginalized communities in running and outdoor sports. Cap Tappers meets Monday evenings for a run that ends at Capitol Beer and Taproom, and 9run6 offers a Friday morning option that finishes at Marie’s Donuts.
The Sacramento Running Association ties the entire scene together with race organization, community programs, and a full directory of local clubs. If you’re in the River City and looking for a group, you won’t have to look long.
