The route starts at the Lincoln Memorial and follows the multi-use paths along the National Mall, passing a stretch of war memorials on the way out and again on the way back. The pavement is flat and the surroundings are open, with monuments visible most of the walk. People tend to slow down at the memorials rather than push through them.
