Washington Running Club
Washington, District of Columbia
Washington Running Club is a long-distance running club based in Georgetown that has met for Sunday morning distance runs and post-run coffee since 1974. The club organizes pace groups ranging from 7:00-9:00 min/mile, participates in local and national road races, and welcomes runners to join without membership requirements.
About This Club
Washington Running Club has been meeting in Georgetown on Sunday mornings since 1974, making it one of the longer-running fixtures on the DC running scene. It is built around distance, with routes of 8-10 miles on the Capital Crescent Trail or 13.6 miles through Rock Creek Park, so this is a club that suits people who are training seriously or who just like a proper long run with company.
Who It Suits
If you can comfortably run 8 or more miles and want structured pace groups for long-run training or race prep, this is set up for you. If you are newer to running, building your base, or not yet comfortable with distances in that range, the routes here will likely be a stretch.

What a Run With Them Is Like
You meet at 3307 M Street NW in Georgetown and head out on roads, the Capital Crescent Trail, or Rock Creek Park trails depending on the route that day. The pace groups cover 7:00-8:00, 8:00-9:00, and 10:00 min/mile, so there is real separation rather than everyone muddling along together.
The shorter option is 8-10 miles and the longer is 13.6 miles, so these are not casual jogs around the block. After the run, the group goes for coffee in Georgetown.
Your First Run
You can just show up at 3307 M Street NW, no signup or membership required to try it. The time changes by season, so note this before you set your alarm: 8:00 a.m. most of the year, 7:00 a.m. in summer and early fall.
Because pace groups are organized in advance, you will not be scrambling to keep up with people running a minute per mile faster than you. If you want to know more before showing up, they say you can contact the club directly.

Common Questions About Washington Running Club
Do I have to pay or become a member to run with them?
No, membership is not required to join a run. If you want to become a member, individual membership is $30 a year and family membership is $50 a year.
What time do they meet?
8:00 a.m. for most of the year, but 7:00 a.m. during summer and early fall. Check which window applies before you show up.
Will I be able to keep up? I run around a 9-minute mile.
There is an 8:00-9:00 min/mile group and a 10:00 min/mile group, so a 9-minute pace puts you right in the middle of the available options.
How far do they actually go? I want to know before I commit.
The routes are 8-10 miles on the Capital Crescent Trail or 13.6 miles on the High Road through Rock Creek Park. These are long runs, not easy shakeouts.
What is the terrain like? Is it all roads?
It is a mix: Georgetown and DC streets, the paved Capital Crescent Trail multiuse path, and trails in Rock Creek Park, depending on which route the group takes.
Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out. Last updated July 2026.
