About This Club

District Running Collective is a free, weekly run crew based out of Union Market in DC's Near Northeast, running together since 2013. They run Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Saturdays starting at 6:30 AM, with organized pace groups so you are not just hoping you end up with people at your speed. No membership required, no fee to show up.

  • Organized pace groups
  • Multiple distance options
  • Optional paid membership with additional benefits
  • Race series participation
  • Organized run captains and crew

Who It Suits

If you can run somewhere in the 9:45 to 11:00 per mile range, or faster, there is a Wednesday pace group built for you.

Runners who rely on walk breaks during a run should reach out to DRC before their first Wednesday to confirm what works, since walk breaks are not part of the Wednesday pace group structure. Saturday options are worth checking directly, as the two wave times suggest some flexibility in how those runs are organized.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings both go through urban DC streets out of 1309 5th St NE. Distance options range from 3 miles up to 10 miles and beyond, so you pick what works for you that day.

On Wednesdays, five named pace groups go out together, from Flyers running sub-8-minute miles down to a Beginners group at roughly 9:45 to 11:00 minutes per mile, so you find your people before the run starts, not mid-run when it's awkward.

Your First Run

Show up to 1309 5th St NE before the listed start time, since both Wednesday and Saturday runs have a gather time before the official takeoff. Arriving a few minutes early gives you a chance to find a run captain and figure out which pace group fits you.

On Wednesdays the pace groups do not include walking, so if you are planning to walk or take walk breaks, Saturday may be a better first run to check their setup. You are not showing up to a strangers' dinner party, you are showing up to an organized run with captains who know how to get new people sorted.
