About the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids

The course starts at Sellwood Riverfront Park and crosses the Sellwood Bridge on the pedestrian path, then drops down to the Willamette Greenway Trail heading north. Both distance options follow the same out-and-back route along the river, with the longer course continuing further up the trail before turning back. Walkers, rollers, and runners all share the same path, and volunteers are posted throughout to keep people on track.

Bib pickup happens the afternoon before the race at Foot Traffic, a running store in Sellwood, with a second chance the morning of the event at the park itself. Parking at Sellwood Riverfront Park is limited, so carpooling or public transit is worth planning ahead. A virtual option lets you run the same distances on your own, anywhere you choose, on race day.

Common Questions About the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids

Will I finish last at the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 48:26, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:05, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids a good first 5K?

It is a small race (166 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids?

The 5K winner ran 22:29 while the median finisher took 48:26. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Strut Your Kidney - a dash for NW Kidney Kids?

Join a local run club. FoPo Run Club, Portland Running Club, Deadstock Run Club and others in Portland welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
