About the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay

The course follows the McAlpine Cross Country course through McAlpine Creek Park, a route familiar to many Charlotte runners. It loops around a pond, and the layout means you pass a marker twice before turning off to the finish, so knowing that turn matters. The terrain is park trail, and the surroundings are quiet enough that you notice them.

Packet pickup is race morning at the park. Parking is in the main park lot, and from there you walk a path across a bridge to the start and vendor area. After the race, there are baked goods, coffee, and free snacks, plus a shaded picnic area, drag and aerial silk performances, live music, and queer-owned vendors set up around the grounds.

Common Questions About the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay

Will I finish last at the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:21, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 204 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:50 while the median finisher took 33:44. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Stride for Pride 5K & Relay?

Join a local run club. Charlotte Running Club, Mad Miles Run Club, RunBots and others in Charlotte welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
