The course runs out and back along Hains Point, a narrow peninsula where the Potomac wraps around both sides. It is genuinely flat, so there is nothing to manage except pace. The surroundings are open and wide, with water visible for most of the route. The race is tied to Oakwood University's alumni network, so the crowd skews toward people who know each other.
