About the Mardi Gras Madness - Dallas

The race runs through Bachman Lake Park dressed up as a Mardi Gras parade. Aid stations double as block parties, with volunteers tossing beads in purple, green, and gold to runners as they pass. Before the start, there is a costume contest where the crowd picks a winner by volume of cheering, and that person leads the field out.

A DJ runs the finish area the whole morning, calling out runners by name as they cross the line. Awards go out live as finishers come in rather than in a single ceremony at the end. Packet pickup happens on-site before the start, so there is no separate trip the day before.

Common Questions About the Mardi Gras Madness - Dallas

Will I finish last at the Mardi Gras Madness - Dallas?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 38:04, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:10, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Mardi Gras Madness - Dallas a good first 3.11 Miles?

It is a small race (175 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Mardi Gras Madness - Dallas?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 20:22 while the median finisher took 38:04. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
