About the Laufvergnügen (Half/10k/5k)

The course is flat and runs on National Park Service land, timed and measured, with real awards for the fast finishers. Everyone starts and ends in the same spot, from people deep in fall training to families walking together. The finish leads directly into an Oktoberfest spread: bratwurst off the grill, warm salted pretzels, sauerkraut, fresh buns, and a handmade mustard that apparently haunts people for months.

Food is included in registration, no voucher or separate line required. Near beer is on hand, the alcohol rules being set by the National Park Service rather than the organizers. The race runs rain or shine, and late fall in Washington tends to cooperate. Costumes, particularly lederhosen, are a recurring theme.
