About the Annual Long Run 5K

This race starts and finishes at a middle school campus in Dallas, the same school that organizes it as its sole PTA fundraiser. The route is a neighborhood run, and the shorter distance runs first, so the start area stays busy in waves. It draws families connected to the school as much as it draws regular runners.

Packet pickup is on the school's front lawn the evening before the race. After you finish, there is a dinner from one of two local restaurants, and you choose which when you register. It is a practical post-race setup that works well for people heading straight home.

Finish-Time Stats

Common Questions About the Annual Long Run 5K

Will I finish last at the Annual Long Run 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:09, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Annual Long Run 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 364 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Annual Long Run 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:15 while the median finisher took 32:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Annual Long Run 5K?

Join a local run club. 214 Run Club, Dallas Running Club, Run It Up Dallas and others in Dallas welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
