Who It Suits
This suits people training for ultra distances or building endurance on trail, at any pace, including beginners to the sport. It's not a fit for someone who wants flat pavement, is training for short fast road races, or wants to bring a dog or a stroller along, none of that is part of the setup here.

What a Run With Them Is Like
Runs happen every Saturday at 8:00 AM on trails around the St. Louis area, with routes ranging from 4 to 10+ miles. All paces are welcome, and the ground is trail, not pavement, so expect roots, dirt and the usual footing changes that come with that.
Your First Run
Check their Facebook page ahead of time for that week's specific trail location, since the meeting spot moves around the St. Louis area. You don't need to join or pay anything to show up and run, membership is separate from the weekly runs.
Just get there for 8:00 AM Saturday at whatever trail is posted that week. All paces are welcome, so showing up without a race background isn't the issue, showing up ready for trail footing rather than flat pavement is what matters more here.

Common Questions About St. Louis Ultrarunners Group (SLUGS)
Do I have to join or pay to run with SLUGS?
No, the weekly runs don't require membership. Membership is $20 a year or $35 for two years and gets you race discounts and other member perks, but it's optional for showing up to run.
Where exactly do I go each week?
Check their Facebook page for the specific trail location before each Saturday, since runs rotate among different trails around the St. Louis area rather than meeting in one fixed spot.
Can I bring my dog or a running stroller?
No, this group isn't set up for dogs or strollers.
What races does SLUGS put on?
They host 5 annual ultras as part of the Eastern Missouri Ultra Series, with distances ranging from 20K up to 100 miles.
Is this okay for someone who's never done a trail run before?
It's listed as beginner friendly and welcomes all paces, but the terrain is trail throughout, not flat pavement, so come ready for uneven footing rather than a road-running pace group.
Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out. Last updated April 2026.
