About This Club

Dojo of Pain is a competitive speed-work group that trains at Hains Point in East Potomac Park, and the name is not ironic. They run Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and the crowd skews heavily toward sub-3-hour marathoners chasing real fitness gains.

Who It Suits

This suits competitive runners who are already comfortable at a fast pace and want training partners who will push them, especially those targeting a marathon PR. It is not a fit for beginners, walkers, or anyone who needs a group that adjusts its pace to keep everyone together.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Workouts happen on the flat, paved loop at Hains Point, which makes it a pure speed environment with no hills to use as an excuse. The focus is marathon training and speed sessions, so expect structured, hard efforts rather than a casual social jog. They say they welcome anyone, but they also won't hesitate to drop you if you can't hold the pace.

Your First Run

Tuesday and Thursday sessions start at 7 am at Hains Point, so show up a few minutes early and look for the group near the park. There is no sign-up or fee mentioned, so just turn up.

Be honest with yourself before you go: if you are currently running around 11-12 minutes per mile, this group will gap you early and you will finish alone. If you are faster than that and want to be pushed, this is exactly the kind of group that will do it.
