Who It Suits
This club is a natural home for LGBTQ+ runners and walkers and anyone who wants a low-pressure, socially oriented group with real roots in the DC community. If you are chasing a specific training pace or structured speed work, this probably is not your setup, but if you want to get out consistently, cover some of DC's best routes, and actually talk to people while you do it, it fits.

What a Run With Them Is Like
These are non-competitive runs, meaning nobody is racing and nobody is going to leave you behind. The terrain varies depending on the day, ranging from urban streets around Dupont Circle and downtown to park and trail routes like Rock Creek Park and the C&O Canal.
They do not publish set distances for each outing, so if knowing the exact mileage before you show up matters to you, check their website or Discord ahead of time. Saturday mornings shift to a 9:00 am start in July and August, and Tuesday evenings move to Union Station during autumn and winter.
Your First Run
Show up to P Street and 23rd Street NW at the listed time. If it is your first visit, you will need to sign a waiver before heading out, so arrive a few minutes early.
You do not need to be a member, and you do not need to know anyone, people show up solo all the time. After the run, the group tends to hang around on the steps at 23rd and P, near the Dupont Circle fountain, or head somewhere warm together when the weather calls for it.

Common Questions About DC Front Runners
Do I have to be a member to run with DC Front Runners?
No. Visitors are welcome to join any run or walk without joining. You will just need to sign a waiver your first time. Membership costs $25 a year for individuals, $10 for students, and $40 for a household, and it comes with perks like Race Circuit access and the Discord community, but it is not required to show up.
Is it okay if I walk instead of run?
Yes, walkers are genuinely part of this club, not an afterthought. They describe themselves as a running and walking club, and walkers show up alongside runners at the same meeting spot and time.
Where exactly do I go on a Tuesday evening in December?
During autumn and winter, Tuesday evening runs shift from Dupont Circle to Union Station at 7:00 pm. The Saturday and Sunday morning runs stay at P Street and 23rd Street NW year-round, though Saturday moves to a 9:00 am start in July and August.
Is there a social scene, or does everyone just disappear after the run?
There is usually something after. When it is warm, people hang out on the steps at 23rd and P or around the Dupont Circle fountain. When it is cold, the group moves to a nearby restaurant. They also hold a monthly happy hour on the first Friday of each month.
Do they run in bad weather?
They have been running four days a week for over 40 years, so the short answer is yes. They do not publish a specific weather cancellation policy, so if there is a serious storm in the forecast, check their website or Discord before you head out.
Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out. Last updated July 2026.
