About the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k

The course starts and finishes at a meadery and winery on the southwest side of Chicago, routing through Dan Ryan Woods. The path is flat throughout, with no real climbing to speak of, and the woods give it a shaded, parklike feel. There is a wine pour waiting at the finish, and the party continues on the winery grounds afterward.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race at the winery itself, and race-morning pickup is available if you arrive early. Parking is in a forest preserve lot just west of the winery, though later wave runners may find it full; a nearby Metra station has public parking as a backup.

Common Questions About the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k

Will I finish last at the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 48:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:21:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 686 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k?

The 5K winner ran 21:11 while the median finisher took 48:22. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Wild Blossom Wine Run 5k?

Join a local run club. CARA Run Crew, Second City Track Club, Venados Running Club and others in Chicago welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
