About the SUPERHERO MILES: a Miami Joy Project 5K
The course runs through Tropical Park, and the route has a twist built into it: at scattered checkpoints along the way, you pick up pieces of a superhero costume, a cape here, a mask there, until you cross the finish line fully assembled. It is a chip-timed race with age group awards, but the costume conceit gives it a different rhythm than a standard 5K.
The race benefits Miami Joy Project, a nonprofit that organizes celebrations and milestone events for kids who are seriously ill or have complex medical needs, often at hospitals, schools, and care facilities. That context is present on course, not just in the fine print, and it shapes the atmosphere from the start area to the finish.
