About the Squeeze the Day 5k

The course runs through Sam Houston Jones State Park, looping around the park grounds before returning to the same spot it left. The terrain is the kind you find in a state park: natural, shaded in stretches, and easy to follow. The race benefits a local children's home, so the crowd tends to include plenty of families and volunteers cheering along the way.

Packet pickup is available the afternoon before at a running store on Ryan Street, and again at the park on race morning before the start. Parking inside the park is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Post-race, food and beverages come out after the last runners finish, and awards follow shortly after.

Common Questions About the Squeeze the Day 5k

Will I finish last at the Squeeze the Day 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:52, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:10, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Squeeze the Day 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 235 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Squeeze the Day 5k?

The 5K winner ran 17:33 while the median finisher took 32:52. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
