About the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon

The course runs out and back along the waterfront at Embarcadero Marina Park South, with open paths shared by other park users throughout. The route is flat and stays close to the water, so the scenery carries you. Turns are marked with chalk, flags, and signs, and water stations are spaced along the way. Costumes are clearly welcome here, given the theme.

Parking is available on-site, with metered spots also nearby. Bib pickup opens at the start line on race morning, so no separate trip is needed the day before. There is a gear check at the registration tent if you want to leave a bag during the race.

Common Questions About the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:20:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon a good first 5K?

It is a small race (33 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon?

The 5K winner ran 21:52 while the median finisher took 33:41. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Hallo-Thanks-Mas Dash - 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. San Diego Track Club, Pacific Beach Run Club, November Project San Diego and others in San Diego welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
