About the DAV 5K Boston

The course runs along the waterfront at Castle Island in South Boston, looping around the historic fort. The terrain is paved and very flat, with open water views for most of the route. The race is tied to Veterans Day weekend and benefits injured veterans, so the crowd tends to include a lot of military families and supporters.

There is a post-race spread on site after you finish. Castle Island has its own parking area, though it fills up on busy weekends, and the peninsula is reachable by bus from downtown if you want to skip the car.

Common Questions About the DAV 5K Boston

Will I finish last at the DAV 5K Boston?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:24:30, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the DAV 5K Boston a good first 5K?

With 989 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the DAV 5K Boston?

The 5K winner ran 16:39 while the median finisher took 33:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the DAV 5K Boston?

Join a local run club. Boston Fun Run, Boston Road Runners, Forest Hills Runners and others in Boston welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
