The course traces a figure-eight loop around a high school campus and a nearby park, so the route doubles back on itself and keeps things interesting. The surroundings are residential Chicago, and runners, walkers, and cyclists share the same course, which gives the morning a broad, open feel.
Check-in opens before the start, giving you time to settle in. After you finish, there are snacks and refreshments on the campus grounds, a masseuse available to help you recover, and a Zumba session happening nearby if you want to keep moving. Bringing a folding chair is a good call.
