About the Beer City Half™ San Diego

The course runs along Mission Bay, so there is water on the horizon for most of the route. Tecolote Shores is the staging ground, a flat open park right on the bay that gives the race a breezy, open feel. The surroundings are scenic without being demanding, and the terrain stays easy underfoot throughout.

The finish area leans into San Diego's craft beer scene, with local brews part of the post-race spread. It is worth planning for some time after you cross the line, because the festival side of the morning seems to be as much the point as the run itself.

Common Questions About the Beer City Half™ San Diego

Will I finish last at the Beer City Half™ San Diego?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:07:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:25:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Beer City Half™ San Diego a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 228 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Beer City Half™ San Diego?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:15:47 while the median finisher took 2:07:50. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Beer City Half™ San Diego?

Join a local run club. San Diego Track Club, Pacific Beach Run Club, November Project San Diego and others in San Diego welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
