About This Club

Pittsburgh Pharaoh Hounds has been running out of Schenley Oval since 1994, and it started life as an elite coaching setup, which shapes how the club still operates. It's a competitive team at its core, but the weekly Tuesday session is built with breakout groups so a range of paces and goals can train side by side. This suits people who want structured running toward a racing goal, not a purely social jog.

  • 30+ years history
  • Multiple relay wins
  • Elite coaching origins
  • Structured workouts
  • Team races
  • Volunteer opportunities

Who It Suits

This is a good fit for competitive runners and aspiring racers, including younger runners and masters athletes, who want structured Tuesday workouts and are training toward actual race results. It's not built for casual walkers or for someone who wants a purely social run with no structure. It's listed as beginner-friendly, but that means beginners aiming to develop as runners, not people whose main goal is a laid-back group jog.

What a Run With Them Is Like

You show up Tuesday at 6:30 PM at the Schenley Oval restrooms, then the group splits into whatever workout or easy run fits your level and goal that night. Terrain is track and road, so expect intervals and structured efforts rather than trail miles. Because groups break out by pace and purpose, a workout night and an easy run night can be happening in the same session.

Your First Run

Get there by 6:00 PM if you can, that's when people warm up before the group officially forms at 6:30 at the oval restrooms. Once everyone's gathered, you talk through the options for that night, workout or easy run, and pick what matches where you're at.

If you're unsure what to expect or what group makes sense for you, email them ahead of time at pharaohhoundspgh@gmail.com and ask. It's free and there's no membership to join, so the only real step is showing up.
