About This Club

Los Angeles Running Club is a nonprofit, all-volunteer club running three structured sessions a week out of Playa del Rey and Santa Monica. They have multiple pace groups and they welcome walkers, so this is not a club where you have to prove yourself before you belong. If you want something more organized than a casual meetup, with coaching and actual race training built in, this is set up for that.

  • Year-round group runs and track workouts
  • Accredited coaching
  • Race discounts
  • Gait analysis with coach
  • Nutrition club discounts through The Feed
  • Ultra training group

Who It Suits

This club suits someone who wants structure: a set weekly schedule, coaching, track work, and a path toward a race goal. It also works if you are newer and want a legitimate group to build with, not just a drop-in jog. Membership costs $65 for the current membership year, so if you want to just test the waters with no commitment, that is worth knowing upfront.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Mondays are 4 to 6 miles on coastal streets and beach in Playa del Rey, starting at 6:45 pm from Provisions on Culver Blvd. Wednesdays are track workouts at Santa Monica High School at 7:00 pm, on the track surface itself.

Saturdays are the long run, meeting at 7:00 am at the Totem Pole on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica, with distance varying depending on what training program the group is following. Because they run multiple pace groups, you are not going to be dragging a single pack of faster runners behind you.

Your First Run

For a Monday run, head to Provisions at 119 Culver Blvd in Playa del Rey at 6:45 pm. Bring water, and a light jacket because evenings on the coast get cool faster than you expect. Parking is free at all three locations, so that part is sorted.

They describe themselves as all-levels and beginner-friendly, and the multiple pace groups mean you will be running with people at your own speed rather than trying to hang on to a group that is out ahead of you. If you want to try the Wednesday track first, note it fills to 50 people and is first come, first served, so arrive on time.
