About This Club

Dashing Whippets is a training team based in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, meeting at Grand Army Plaza, with a roster that competes in the NYRR A Division and running affiliated with RRCA and USATF. It's built for runners who want actual structure, training plans, coaching, and a real racing team, not just a casual jog. The membership is described as diverse, and the club runs more than 10 times a week across Central Park, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

Who It Suits

This suits runners who want a training plan, coaching, and a genuine racing team behind them, plus people who want the social events that come with being on a team. It's not set up for casual walkers or people looking for trail miles, and it's built around group training rather than running solo.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Runs are split by purpose: evening speed workouts and easy runs during the week, long runs on Saturday mornings. Pace covers a wide range since the group trains everyone from casual paces to competitive racers, but the workouts themselves are structured, not just a group jog. Terrain includes roads, track, and park paths, and the network of weekly runs spans multiple NYC boroughs.

Your First Run

Start by checking the Yakka event calendar, since this tells you the current schedule and exact meeting location for that day, and location can shift between the different weekly runs. You can join in with a 30-day free trial before committing to anything, so there's no need to sign up or pay to see if it's a fit.

Go to www.dashingwhippets.org first to understand how the join process works before you show up. The club is listed as beginner friendly, so showing up newer to structured training isn't a barrier, but know going in that this is a team built around workouts and paced training, not a no-pressure stroll.
