About the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East)

The course at Great Lawn Park takes a lollipop shape, meaning you run a straight stem out before looping back around. Underfoot is mostly concrete with some crushed gravel sections. The elevation change is minimal throughout, and the path is wide enough for strollers and leashed dogs. Directional signs and orange cones keep navigation simple.

Packet pickup happens race morning at the venue, so there is no need to come the night before. Street parking lines Willow Circle nearby, and a high school lot just west of the park offers additional space. There is also a charity donation table near the expo area, and a raffle after the race for those who bring items to donate.

Common Questions About the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East)

Will I finish last at the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:17:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East) a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 341 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East)?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:56 while the median finisher took 39:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Unicorn 5k (Denver-East)?

Join a local run club. Rocky Mountain Road Runners, Colorado Harriers, Revolution Running and others in Denver welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
