About the Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler

The course starts with a downhill stretch along Langhorne Road before climbing back up to Rivermont Terrace, then rolls east along historic Rivermont Avenue past a college campus and down to a park along the James River. The return trip finishes on a long, steep climb locals call Farm Basket Hill, which has a reputation that precedes it.

Packet pickup is held at an indoor track facility over the two evenings before the race, with a brief race-morning window at E.C. Glass High School, which also serves as the start area. Live music is posted at several points along the course.

Common Questions About the The Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler

Will I finish last at the Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10 Miles field finished slower than 1:38:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:02:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler a good first 10 Miles?

With 1,402 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler?

The 10 Miles winner ran 48:14 while the median finisher took 1:38:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
