About the I AM Woman 5K

This is a charity race tied to a regional hospital foundation, raising money for pediatric and newborn care equipment. The course is a road 5K starting and finishing at a cancer center on the east side of Lynchburg. The organizer copy does not describe the route itself, so what stands out most is the cause behind it rather than the terrain.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race at a local running shop on Rivermont Avenue. If you cannot make it in person, packets can be mailed to you for a small additional fee. Race-morning pickup is also available at the start area.

Common Questions About the I AM Woman 5K

Will I finish last at the I AM Woman 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 47:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the I AM Woman 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 321 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the I AM Woman 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:57 while the median finisher took 47:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
