About the Captain's 5K Run/Walk & 1 Mile
The course starts and finishes at McCurry Park, with the longer route heading out along newly paved perimeter roads before looping back through the park's walking path. The final stretch runs slightly downhill to the finish. The shorter distance stays entirely inside the park on the same paved path. Both courses are certified and fast.
Parking is right at the start and finish in the main lot, so there is no real walk to worry about. Race-day registration opens well before the gun. The race is organized by a local fraternity chapter, and proceeds support scholarships for high school and college students in the area.
