About the 404 Run

The 404 Run is a road race built around Atlanta's own unofficial holiday, covering a distance that mirrors the city's area code. The course runs along a BeltLine corridor and adjoining parkland, so the surroundings feel distinctly Atlanta rather than generic suburban road. A portion of every entry fee goes toward cancer research, which gives the field a shared purpose beyond the finish line.

Race-morning packet pickup runs in the hour before the start, so there is no need to come the day before. An opening ceremony and warm-up kick things off before the gun, and the celebration afterward stretches well into the late morning with an awards ceremony included.

Common Questions About the The 404 Run

Will I finish last at the 404 Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4.04 Miles field finished slower than 50:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:30:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 404 Run a good first 4.04 Miles?

With 829 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4.04 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 404 Run?

The 4.04 Miles winner ran 25:13 while the median finisher took 50:39. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the 404 Run?

Join a local run club. Atlanta Run Club, Atlanta Track Club, Chattahoochee Road Runners and others in Atlanta welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
