About the Swing Bridge Run

The course runs through historic downtown Beaufort and out across a swing bridge, with the waterfront setting doing most of the work. It is a certified road course, flat along the bay, with the bridge crossing giving it a distinct shape you do not get from a typical out-and-back. Walkers follow the same route but turn around before the bridge meets the far road.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at a local running store called Grounded Running, which the organizers push hard because race-morning lines get long. The start and finish are on Bay Street in the heart of downtown, near the marina. A prayer gathering happens under the waterfront park pavilion just before the race begins. The event welcomes strollers and dogs.

Common Questions About the Swing Bridge Run

Will I finish last at the Swing Bridge Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Swing Bridge Run a good first 5K?

A field of 233 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Swing Bridge Run?

The 5K winner ran 20:06 while the median finisher took 31:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
