About the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K

The course runs the perimeter of Chastain Park and loops out onto surrounding neighborhood roads, all paved. It is USATF-certified, which means it qualifies for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. The terrain is straightforward, no trail sections or significant elevation to contend with. Note that strollers and pets are not allowed out on the course.

The race is put on by several Fulton County and City of Atlanta civic offices working together, with proceeds going toward a family justice center and a camp for children who have experienced domestic violence. Chip timing is used, with results posted shortly after runners cross the finish.

Common Questions About the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K

Will I finish last at the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 51:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:23:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 211 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:55 while the median finisher took 51:29. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the STOP Domestic Violence Abuse 5K?

Join a local run club. Atlanta Run Club, Atlanta Track Club, Chattahoochee Road Runners and others in Atlanta welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
