About the Ryan's Run/Walk Race For Sickle Cell Disease

The course runs through downtown Baton Rouge on roads, passing through Spanish Town and along the river before looping back. The shorter distance stays close to the start, while the longer route swings out to Capitol Lake and River Road. The race is tied to sickle cell awareness, and fundraising is a real part of the day alongside the running.

Packets can be picked up the evening before the race, with race-morning pickup available at the registration table as well. Race-day registration is open, but bring cash or a check payable to the local sickle cell association. Walkers participate alongside runners, though only runners are timed.

Common Questions About the Ryan's Run/Walk Race For Sickle Cell Disease

Will I finish last at the Ryan's Run/Walk Race For Sickle Cell Disease?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 35:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:02, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ryan's Run/Walk Race For Sickle Cell Disease a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (80 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ryan's Run/Walk Race For Sickle Cell Disease?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:44 while the median finisher took 35:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
