About the Run Your Heart Out - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon

The course runs along a beach path, so expect an open, flat stretch with ocean surroundings rather than a closed road. The path is shared with pedestrians and cyclists during the race, and runners are asked to keep right. Several distance options use the same out-and-back route in varying loops, so the course becomes familiar quickly. Turns are marked with chalk, signs, and flags.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a local sporting goods store. Race-morning pickup opens before the first wave goes off. Parking is available in a lot near the start, with street parking also an option nearby. At the finish, there is water, electrolytes, gels, and fruit snacks waiting.

Common Questions About the Run Your Heart Out - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Run Your Heart Out - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:03, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:20:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run Your Heart Out - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon a good first 5K?

It is a small race (188 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run Your Heart Out - 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, Half Marathon?
