About the Run for Women

The course starts at an advanced manufacturing building on campus, loops through a technology park on closed roads, and comes back to finish where it started. The route is on pavement the whole way, and the roads are shut to traffic while the race is on. The race is organized specifically for women, though participation is open to anyone.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race at the same campus building where the race starts, with race-morning pickup available as well. Parking is spread across a nearby deck and a couple of adjacent lots. After the finish, there is Penn State Behrend ice cream at the post-race gathering.

Common Questions About the Run for Women

Will I finish last at the Run for Women?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 35:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run for Women a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (168 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run for Women?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:20 while the median finisher took 35:20. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
