About the Pirates Plunder - 5K, 10K, 10-miler, and Half Marathon
The course runs along the beach path at Alamitos Beach, out and back, staying on the shore the whole way. Several distance options share overlapping routes, so you may cross paths with runners doing a shorter or longer race than yours. The path is open to the public, so expect the occasional cyclist or stroller alongside you. The turns are marked with chalk, signs, and flags.
Costumes are encouraged, and the event has a pirate theme throughout. Pickup for bibs happens the afternoon before at Sports Basement Long Beach. Race morning pickup opens early as well. Parking in the beach lot is paid by the hour via a phone app; street parking nearby is free. A gear check is available at the registration tent, and there is water, electrolytes, and snacks at the finish.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Pirates Plunder - 5K, 10K, 10-miler, and Half Marathon has been held every year since at least 2023. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
